Tuesday evening, Apple unveiled several new products, a new iPhone SE, the Mac Studio, the Apple silicon M1 Ultra chip and a new 5th generation iPad Air. This machine abandons the Ax mobile architecture to move toApple silicon, as the iPad Pros have already done before it.
It also comes equipped with the5Gin its Wi-Fi + Cellular version. But if inour summary, we have listed the main characteristics of the machine, some details have passed under our noses. Let's take advantage of this article to adjust the shot, with the specificities of the iPad Air 5 less highlighted, but still worth knowing, particularly before purchasing:

- Camera :On the back, the camera is the same as the new iPhone SE. But if the latter supports Smart HDR 4 technology thanks to the integrated A15 Bionic chip, the iPad Air and its Apple silicon chip are limited to Smart HDR 3. In video, the new generation supports extended dynamic range in 30 fps , which is not the case with the old iPad Air, both for the front photo module and the one at the back of the case
- RAM:with the transition to the Apple silicon M1 chip, this new iPad Air is equipped with 8 GB of RAM, double that of the previous generation of the tablet
- Connections:USB-C is improved and upgraded to version 3.1 Gen 2, it is twice as fast as the old generation of iPad Air (equipped with a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 socket)
- 5G :as on the iPhone SE, 5G is not compatible with 5G mmWave, which is a variant of 5G deployed in certain areas of the world (USA in particular)
- Device:The iPad Air 5 supports Studio Display, which is not the case with the iPad Air 4
- Dimensions :the dimensions do not change by a millimeter from one generation to the next
- Weight :the new iPad Air 5 weighs a little less than the iPad Air 4, both in the Wi-Fi version and in the Wi-Fi + Cellular version (-3 and -2 g respectively)
- Autonomy:no change from one generation to the next, despite the SoC change
- Finishes:Space Gray is the only finish seen on iPad Air 4 and still present on iPad Air 5. Starlight replaces Silver, Pink replaces Rose Gold, Mauve replaces Sky Blue and Blue replaces Green
The 2022 update of the iPad Air can be considered major with the switch to Apple silicon and 5G support (not forgetting the update to the USB-C port). But in reality, the old version of the machine is not out of date, with its A14 Bionic chip, even more so if cellular connectivity on iPad does not interest you.
In addition, prices have increased, as for the iPhone SE. See for yourself below.
iPad Air 4 :
- 64 Go Wi-Fi :669 €
- 64 Go Wi-Fi + Cellular :809 €
- 256 Go Wi-Fi :839 €
- 256 Go Wi-Fi + Cellular :979 €
iPad Air 5 :
- 64 Go Wi-Fi :699 €
- 64 Go Wi-Fi + Cellular :869 €
- 256 Go Wi-Fi :869 €
- 256 Go Wi-Fi + Cellular :1039 €
Note an increase of €30 for the iPad Air in Wi-Fi version, and €60 for the iPad Air in Wi-Fi + Cellular version, which is not at all negligible.
