The iPhone 12 Pro Max, currently the most efficient of all iPhones sold by Apple, is equipped withthree objectivestwelve megapixels at the rear (not counting the time-of-flight radar). First of all, there is the wide-angle with an f/1.6 aperture. Alongside it is also an ultra wide-angle (f/2.4) and a telephoto lens. This is what changes with the iPhone 12 Pro, on which it has an f/2.0 aperture compared to f/2.2 on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The optical zoom goes up to 5x, compared to 4x for its little brother.
With the next devices, on the other hand, it is also the wide-angle which would be entitled to a change. It would therefore be a bit wider on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, with an f/1.5 aperture. The classic iPhone 13, the mini and the Pro, for their part, would continue to rely on f/1.6 for their images. In any case, this is the hypothesis shared byMing-Chi Kuo,renowned analyst whois not his first attempt when it comes to guessing the future of the photo block of headed mobiles.
Subcontractors already at work
The Apple service provider who will develop this component isSunny Optical, which we had already heard about beforehand. The company, which would prepare a delivery tothird quarter 2021, would then send the part to LG's Innotek division probably for assembly. 100% Asian manufacturing therefore, still far from the ambitions of the Apple brand which would be to do without this type of collaboration, in the long term.
Indeed, Tim Cook's teams have imagined a robot called Daisy which is responsible for recycling old iPhones to revalue them. One more solution to achieve its ecological objective of moving to a neutral carbon footprint by 2030. Despite everything, some consumers do not always look favorably on this practice, as lawyers have noted.
What are the advantages for users?
A better aperture, with f/1.5 rather than f/1.6, means that the iPhone 13 Pro Max lens could potentially achievebest photos in low light conditions. But the comparison probably won't be noticeable to the naked eye. On the other hand, it will be an excellent communication argument, to be highlighted during a keynote for example.
