During the lastWWDC, Apple has presented a new tool that allows developers to wear Windows video games more simply on Mac. The latter works as part of MacOS Sonoma. Based on Wine, this open-source platform simplifies this transition from Windows software to UNIX environments (MacOS, Linux, etc.).
In theory, this system is aimed at studios and professionals, but nothing prevents a hacker knowing how to use this game Porting Tool to use it to run Windows games on Mac. And precisely, the latter has just been the subject of a very appreciable update which was tested by the Youtubeur Andrew Tsai.
Notable progress
The videographer, who was able to test the 1.0.2 beta of the Game Porting Toolkit, noted that he improves many games. This is the case with Elden Ring which goes from 26 to 32 images per second on a Mac equipped with the M1 Max chip. Same observation with Cyberpunk on an ultra Mac M2 where the number of images per second goes from 8 fps to 18 fps.
He could also see that some games, which did not work before, are now running on Mac. This is the case with Horizon Zero Dawn and Resident Evil 2. However, compatibility problems with the M1 Ultra and M2 Ultra fleas have also been noted, while games work with less powerful fleas.
As our colleagues from9to5mac, you should know that MacOS Sonoma Beta is available exclusively for developers. However, a public beta version should be published during the month of July before the official version was released during this fall.
