Justin Long was the face of Apple's "Get a Mac" commercials between 2006 and 2010and turned dozensof advertisementsfor the brand. The idea of these was to highlight the superiorityMac computersin comparison to their Windows counterparts, always in a humorous way. While he has not been seen since then playing for Apple, the American actor has now turned to the competition, and his appearance at Computex 2024 did not go unnoticed.
From Apple to Qualcomm
It was during Qualcomm's speech at the Taiwanese show that we were able to admire Long's acting again during a 30-second sketch (see video below fromthe official Sanpadragon YouTube channel, the sketch begins at 1:17:09). We can see itoverwhelmed by a deluge of macOS notifications, chase them away with a wave of the hand and search on the internet “Where can I find a PC with a Snapdragon processor?».
He then concludes with humor by turning towards the camera: “Well what? Things are changing!". A scene of certain humorous verve highlightingwe move from Apple products to Windows and Qualcomm technologies. It is also an echo of the speech of the CEO of Qualcomm, who revealed this sketch during the closing speech of the event, entitled “The PC Reborn”. Amon concluded his speech by saying: “Yes, things are changing. Things are changing».
A strategy to win back Qualcomm and Microsoft
Qualcomm and Microsoft have stepped up their efforts to compete withMacBook Air, presenting rather promising benchmarks and battery life performances fortheir new Windows PCs on Arm architecture.
This advertising turnaround came just a few years afterJustin Long was briefly hired by Intel in 2021to create new ads touting the benefits of PCs. At the time, Intel was reacting to Apple's move from Intel processors toits own M1 chips, with ads mocking the Touch Bar, the lack of support for multiple monitors and the color choices of the M1 MacBooks.
A fairly classic little marketing squabble all in allin the traditional rivalry Apple vs. the rest of the world, nothing too bad. Qualcomm is no exception and has managed to spin its advertising nicely to honor Long's past, with a little nod to Apple as a bonus.
