A new reading grid for 4G
Arcep will introducefour levels of coveragefor mobile internet. No more simple “covered” or “uncovered”, now a 4-level scale. The new metrics are, as Alloforfait mentions: “
- No coverage: unlikely to be able to exchange mobile data, whether inside or outside buildings;
- Limited coverage: possibility of exchanging mobile data outside buildings in most cases, but probably not inside buildings;
- Good coverage: possibility of exchanging mobile data outside buildings in most cases, and, in some cases, inside buildings;
- Very good coverage: possibility of exchanging mobile data outside buildings, and, in most cases, inside buildings.
So you will know if you can hopesurfing a 4Ginside your home or if you will have to make do with an outside connection. This information is valuable, especially for residents of rural areas where coverage sometimes remains capricious.
A tool that is refined to better inform you
Arcep wants to give consumers all the cards in hand to choose their operator with full knowledge of the facts. The new maps, which will soon integrate these four levels of coverage, arebased on data from December 31, 2024.
They should be put online during thefirst quarter 2025. Operators will therefore have a few months to adapt to this new standard of transparency, anddo their best to satisfy their customers.
