New stolen photos just published show a new HomePod model, with a screen at the top. This is where the speaker's touch controls are located today, but these are limited to simple capacitive buttons, without a real complex display. However, according to today's images, the new panel could display text and icons.
We do not know, at the moment, when Apple could release this device in stores. But the second generation of HomePod (large format) was presented last February. The price is now set at 349 euros, regardless of the color chosen. For comparison, at Sonos, the Era 100 model is offered for 279 euros – with Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 connectivity. We can also cite the case of the excellent Smart Speaker 500 from Bose, sold for 399.95 euros – also with screen.

No guarantees, for now
According to the source who shared these new images, the HomePod with a screen is apparently only in the prototype stage, for now. This can therefore also mean that the product will never see the light of day, if the manufacturer does not succeed in transforming it into a minimum viable product. Several Apple devices have already suffered this fate, such as the AirPower wireless charging mat.
Note, moreover, that the voice command available via the assistantSirion the current HomePod is already very efficient. It seems that users often favor this technology, rather than the buttons located at the top of the speaker. But Apple doesn't report precisely these types of behavioral statistics.
HomePod mini: better value for money?
With its more affordable price,le HomePod mini(109 euros) presents itself as a choice alternative to the large model. The connected speaker obviously also includes Siri, but the sound does not always carry that far.
Ideally designed to work hand in hand with the rest of the Apple ecosystem, HomePods and HomePod mini connect very easily to iPhones or Macs. However, there is not yet a “bundle” offer from the Apple company, to purchase the speaker with an associated device at a lower cost.
