From next year, Macs would run under ARM with USB4 soon

Last week,Appleunveiled two new computers:the Mac mini 2020, as well asa reissue of the MacBook Air, its ultralight laptop. Both come with a processor from Intel, whose reputation is well established. However, for several weeks, we have heard here and there that another brand would be favored to manufacture the SoCs for Cupertino PCs…

This company would be no one elseARM, information that is all the more reliable as its architecture is already at the origin of the chip integrated into the latest iPad Pro, called A12Z bionic. Furthermore, a former executive who worked under the aegis of John Sculley around thirty years agoassurethat this technology is fully capable of running powerful machines like the Mac Pro.

What more do we know?

According to Kuo, the period chosen by Apple to launch its computers with “in-house” processors (they should not be branded ARM, as is the case on iPhones) would stick with the year2021. We don't yet know the price, but one thing is certain: the cost of the component will be goodcheaper-up to half as much-for the manufacturer. Whether this change will have any impact on prices for the general public is another story.

Furthermore, the researcher also thinks that the subcontractorASMedia Technology, based in New Taipei, will be in charge of the design of the USB ports of the new Macs in question. A company preceded by a serious history, since already a provider of Asus, which sells some of the most powerful Windows.

Sockets would benefit from the new standardUSB4, which promises a flow rate of40 Go/sand the same features as Thunderbolt 3. Still with the excellent reversible USB-C cables. But only in 2022, however.
