This Monday, Apple presented its new range of MacBook Pros. We can roughly separate them into two screen sizes, with 14 or 16 inches on the clock. With this, three processors are on the menu: the M3, M3 Pro or M3 Max – from the least powerful to the fastest. We therefore tried to find out what mainly differentiates these models from their predecessors, also released in 2023. Here is what it is, in brief.
The end of the 13-inch MacBook Pro
To begin with, you should know that the 13.6-inch MacBook Pro has simply been abandoned by Apple. From now on, for the small model, we can only count on the diagonal of 14.2 inches.
More powerful machines
New chips
With this, the new MacBook Pros are all powered by thenew generation of chips from Apple. There are three of them: M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max. Note that here, the last two are the most powerful. The M3 is also not available on the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
RAM
For RAM, here too Apple has changed the situation. Indeed, the 16-inch MacBook Pros now run on a maximum of 128 gigabytes of RAM – compared to 96 gigabytes for the M2 generation. The same goes for the 14-inch MacBook Pros.
Any changes to the design?
With this, Apple is offering a brand new space black color for the MacBook Pros from the end of 2023. Against space gray for the MacBook Pros from the beginning of the year. The associated charging cable is alsoassortedin function.
Some differences are also present in terms of the mass of each device. But the gap between the MacBook Pro M2 and the MacBook Pro M3 is minimal here, and therefore relatively negligible. We are therefore only talking about a few grams more or less, from one grind to another.
The cases of the battery and charger
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 has a 70-watt charger, more powerful than the 67-watt M2 model. These are the numbers for the 11-core M3 Pro CPUs and the 10-core M2 Pro CPUs, respectively.
The battery power also changes: count 72.4 Wh for the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pros, compared to 70 Wh for their predecessors.
Fairly slim gaps are also notable for the power supply of the 16-inch models.
The costs
Finally, let's mention the case of the base prices of the new MacBook Pros, revised upwards. Judge for yourself:
- 2,399 euros for the basic 14-inch MacBook Pro M2 Pro (early 2023)
- 2,499 euros for the basic 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 Pro (late 2023)
