Apple did not wait before moving to version 11.4 of macOS. A first beta of macOS 11.4 was in fact published before the final version of macOS 11.3, followed by several test iterations.
But for a few hours, that's it, it's the final version of macOS 11.4 that the Californian is offering.
No big new features on the program, unlikemacOS 11.3 available since the end of April. Bug fixes and security improvements are available. Otherwise, there is talk of adding compatibility for new graphic components:
- AMD 6800
- AMD 6800XT
- AMD 6900 XT
These bring major new features for video games, including accelerated rendering time and so-called ray tracing technology improving image and lighting quality.
However, M1 Macs do not currently support third-party GPUs. This could be the case for future Apple silicon Macs, while Intel Macs still in the range can benefit from it, via Thunderbolt 3 and an external GPU box.
Note that macOS 11.4 also benefits from the new features introduced by iOS 14.6, namely thepodcast subscriptionsand thecompatibility for Apple Music with Lossless Audio and Spatial Audio modes, even if these will not be deployed until June. Finally, with macOS 11.4, Apple took the opportunity to correct amajor flaw. This allowed you to take screenshots and use the Mac's webcam without the user being aware. It appears that only users who downloaded apps outside of the App Store may have been affected. Just to resolve this vulnerability, we advise you to update as soon as possible.
