macOS Sonoma: the release date finally set by Apple

• macOS Sonoma will be available in final version on September 26

During its keynote this evening, Apple confirmed the release date of macOS Sonoma. The new version of the operating system will therefore be available to everyone fromTuesday September 26next, or the coming week. This is a major update, which includes many new features, including the ability to install widgets on the desktop. With this, still on the personalization side, we can also benefit from new animated screensavers. It's not clear, however, whether the feature is the most energy efficient.

macOS Sonoma also offers some great advantages for navigation. Safari allows you to share passwords between users of theTrousseau iCloudwhile shortcuts to our favorite sites can take place within theDock. With this, macOS 14 gains some extras for the Notes app, most of which are alsotestable on iPadOS 17.

Comment installer macOS Sonoma ?

To install macOS Sonoma, here is the procedure to follow (if your computer is running macOS Ventura)

1. open the Apple menu 
2. click onSystem Settings
3. click onGeneral(left pane)
4. click onSoftware update(right pane)

And here is the procedure for previous versions of the Mac operating system:

• open the Apple menu 
• click onSystem Preferences
• click onSoftware update

Please note that for macOS Sonoma to install on your Mac, you will first need to download the update. The operation may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection. Do not turn off the computer during the procedure.

Caution

Brand new, macOS Sonoma may still have manybugs. Specialists therefore sometimes advise waiting a few more weeks to update your computer, especially for professional use.

But this school is opposed to that of security, because any update is most often synonymous with fixes for potential flaws. It's up to you, therefore, whether the update is worth it or not, depending on your needs.

Which Macs are compatible with macOS Sonoma?

Apple has already publishedthe complete list of Macs that can install macOS Sonoma. It was during the Worldwide Developer Conference in June that we were able to learn more about this subject, as we often do.

Among the models left this year (which were entitled to macOS Ventura in 2022), we find all the MacBooks released in 2017 as well as the iMacs arriving between 2015 and 2017. The new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro as well as the MacBook Fifteen-inch Air are obviously compatible, for their part.
