MagSafe poses risk to cardiac devices

As we saw on Presse-Citron,le chargeur MagSafeunveiled in October 2020 at the same time as the iPhone 12, has many more uses than you might think. On Twitter, Frederik Riedel saida fabulous story in which he used his MagSafe charger as a fishing rodmagnetized in order to recover his iPhone 12 that had fallen into the water.

However, while this type of magnetic charger is particularly useful, it appears that it also presents many risks for cardiac devices.

A recent report by the American Heart Association revealed that the magnet placed on the iPhone to fit the charger can interfere with pacemakers when placed directly under the skin. A previous report from the Heart Rhythm Journal also explains the presence of an iPhone 12 is capable of affecting some cardiac devices.

An obvious report, but late…

Coming back to the report written by the American Heart Association, it states:“Our study demonstrates that magnetic reversion mode can be triggered when the iPhone 12 Pro Max is placed directly on the skin over an implantable cardiac device and thus has the potential to inhibit life-saving therapies.”

The American Heart Association observes that this type of behavior was not present with the older generation of iPhone 6. This report was carried out noting that“People often put their smartphone in a chest pocket on a device that may be near cardiac devices. This may result in asynchronous pacing or deactivation of antitachycardia therapies.”

Perhaps the American Heart Association should work directly with manufacturers instead of submitting hollow reports when the product is released. People with pacemakers can't put anything magnetic near them, long before this magnetic charger came along.
