Two and a half weeks laterthe launch of iOS 18, Apple is finally preparing to deploy a fix for the latter. The analytical data of9to5MacetMacRumorsreveal that the Cupertino firmcurrently testing iOS version 18.0.1. This should be available in the coming weeks, with the aim of resolving several persistent (and somewhat annoying) bugs.
Distressed messages and temperamental screens
Among the most pressing problems isa critical bug in the Messages app. Discovered last week, this malfunction causesrepeated application crashesand may cause conversation data to disappear.
Separately, some iOS 18 and iPhone 16 users have reportedTouch screen responsiveness issues,a software issue affecting Pro models. The algorithm for rejecting accidental touches, which was too sensitive, caused inertia of the panel during certain contacts. Quite frustrating.
The iPad Pro M4 in recovery
The situation was even more worrying on the tablet side. Apple had topause the deployment of iPadOS 18for iPad Pros equipped with the M4 chip, after some negative feedback from users. Indeed, once the update is installed, some devices were completely out of order.
The firm has confirmed to its technicians that a solution is being developed, without however specifying a very precise timetable. It is very likely that iPadOS 18.0.1 will be launched at the same time as iOS 18.0.1 to resolve these inconveniences.
As Apple works to fix these bugs, the company is also preparingiOS 18.1, planned forbe deployed during the month of October. This much larger update will introduce the very first Apple Intelligence features and other new features. In the meantime, iPhone and iPad users will have towait a few weeksbefore seeing their devices return to normal operation with the arrival of these two fixes.
- Apple is currently testing iOS 18.0.1 to fix critical bugs in the Messages app and touchscreen malfunctions, with deployment expected in the coming weeks.
- iPadOS 18.0.1 will also arrive to resolve the problem of M4 iPad Pros becoming unusable after the update.
- The two patches should logically be released simultaneously, while awaiting the arrival of iOS 12.1 in October.
