A new USB-C cable more expensive than ever from Apple

The long version of 1.8 m had already created a surprise with its very high pricelast month, and yet. Apple has just published the details of its new Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable, this time 3 m long and sold for…179 euros, compared to 149 euros for the shortest version. For this amount, you will have to settle for a black colored design only, but braided to avoid tangling.

The product is alreadyavailablein certain Apple Stores, notably at Opéra for Parisians. Otherwise, it is also possible to have it delivered to your home with a delay of one to two weeks depending on your address. A figure which may, however, vary depending on the flow of stocks and your region, precisely.

Why so expensive?

Obviously, with such a price, we wonder what is hidden in this luxury cable. In reality, we are here on high-end components including silver, copper and gold but also a branded chipIntelwhich controls electrical flow to prevent overheating. The manufacturer has, however, been neglected by Apple for its computers, in favor of proprietary systems assembled by the founder TSMC.

The advantage of this accessory, which is not just a simple USB-C cable, is also that it is compatible with the standardThunderbolt 4capable of offering data transfer speed up to 40 Gbit per second. In USB 3.1 (second generation), the speed is reduced to 10 Gbit per second but this score remains excellent compared to many other more affordable wires.

Compatibility

Apple specifiesthe 3m Thunderbolt 4 Pro cableis primarily intended for computers, tablets and external monitors. Among the devices that can -officially- be connected with it, we find in particular six models ofiPad Proand the last two iPad Airs. On the screen side, it will be a dream choice for connecting a source to the recent Studio Display or its big brother the Pro Display XDR.

Buy the cable

Finally, the manufacturer specifies thatthe all new Mac Studio, arrived this year, is also eligible alongside the Mac Pro (2019), the Mac mini M1, the iMac Pro (2017) and the iMac M1.
