New Year: no saturation of the SMS network this year

A few years ago, it was still common to have to wait a few minutes before being able to call or write to your friends to wish them aHave a good yearto midnight between December 31 and January 1. Indeed, given that everyone was engaging in this practice, the antennas quickly became overloaded with requests and we had to wait for the communication “blocks” to clear.

It's now ancient history: the main ISPs* have just put their statistics online regarding the transition to 2020, and they are clear. The applications ofSMSwere thus much less requested than their counterparts likeWhatsAppor Messenger.

The numbers

Orange, for example, ensures that102 millions of textswere written by its clients during this holiday period, a number three times higher than on a typical day. But it should be qualified, because MMS increased by 24% while mobile data reached +9%. Growth is therefore there, for an increasingly cheaper service in packages.

At SFR, users sent 290 million SMS messages (compared to 133 at Bouygues) but theInternet traffic has exploded with 34% more exchangesthan usual. Which confirms that Internet users are increasingly using alternative solutions such as VoIP offered for example byFaceTimeor Instagram.

And how did you contact your loved ones? We, of course, used ouriPhone…And we wish you at the same time a happy new year 2020!
