The number one French mobile operatorOrangeis preparing to officially deploy a feature in a few days, on December 20.This is data roaming abroadon Apple connected watches.

This is in fact what our colleagues fromWatchGénération, who were able to obtain the informationpreview from the operator. Officially, the feature will be launched byOrangeon December 19, but it may already be operational.

Benefits and conditions

Apple Watch's overseas data roaming lets you connect to local mobile networks in countries other than our own for data and calls. This of course only in the case where the said networks are compatible and have agreements with our operator. Orange specifies on this subject: “You must travel to one of the countries where Orange's partner networks offer 4G and VoLTE and be under coverage. You must activate the “data abroad” service on the watch and not have blocked roaming in your Customer Area. You must ensure that your main offer includes roaming or subscribe to passes and options on your main offer to avoid extra packages on your smartphone and watch. »

Once roaming is enabled on the Apple Watch, you will be able to receive calls, send messages, and be connected to the internet. All without the need to have your iPhone nearby. Thus, the weather, notifications, maps, or any other service that requires data, can continue to function as long as the watch receives the mobile network.

Which Apple Watches are compatible?

Orangehowever, clarified that not all Apple Watches are compatible. To be able to benefit from roaming, you must have aApple Watch Series 5 at least, or an SE, as well as version 10.2 of watchOS.
