A few days after Apple with iOS 18, Google announces a similar new feature for Gmail

You will have to pay to take advantage of it, but the functionality is indeed out.Gmail now offers users of the Google Workspace suite (new name of G Suite) to benefit from an option that summarizes emails using artificial intelligence. In short, as Mail also does with iOS 18 or macOS Sequoia, the Gemini assistant is responsible for reading the content of your messages to extract the best and offer you a summary. Of course, as always, the developer places emphasis on confidentiality by specifying that the data thus consulted is respected while respecting the confidentiality of the users. Which remindsApple's promise in this area, ensuring that its alternative only processes information via private servers.

An example provided by the publisher is that of an email mentioning a quote to repair a leak from the roof. Since it is relatively long, the user chooses to ask the artificial intelligence to summarize it in its entirety. The robot is then able to detect that an appointment has been made to study the sealing problem, and that a price proposal is included. As a bonus, Gemini notes that the recipient's contact asks him if he accepts the amount, and if it is possible to meet him on Thursday.

Other improvements to Google Workspace thanks to artificial intelligence

The ability to summarize an email received in Gmail is not the only one to be based on artificial intelligence within the Workspace suite. In fact, a whole side panel is now arriving in the Californian inbox. This new interface is, again, that ofGemini, which can also create a tailor-made draft for you if you don't have time to write a response. The integration also allows you to sort your messages, for example to only display those that have not yet been read. Of course, you also have the option of using filters to do this. These have been available for several years now, on Gmail.

Geminialso integrates with Google's office suite, including Docs. The online word processing software has also just welcomed the AI side panel, which allows you to paraphrase your file in just a few seconds. Correction is also included, even if, as we recall, solutions of this type are not the most infallible. Alternatives like Grammarly, Merci App and Antidote therefore still have a bright future ahead of them, even if 100% reliability does not yet exist even among the competition.

How to test this new Gmail feature?

You cannot test AI email summarization with a traditional Gmail account. You must therefore have a Workspace account to be eligible. We can still count on an integration of Gemini with individuals' inboxes in the future, but without a more precise deployment schedule. Please note, however, that artificial intelligence features are available within Alphabet services with a subscription to Google One AI Premium. The price varies depending on the country; find out more or change your region to benefit from a more advantageous rate.

Email summarization in Gmail with Workspace begins rolling out to paying customers on June 24, but the process is gradual. It is therefore likely that you are not yet entitled to the new product at the moment, which is also the case for us. So, you just have to wait a few days. Up to fifteen, more precisely, depending on your professional account settings.

  • Gemini integrates Gmail to summarize received emails
  • It is artificial intelligence that makes it possible
  • Only paying users (Google Workspace) are eligible for this at the moment
