New information about the iPhone SE came out this week. They are signed Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley, two analysts from the Barclays firm. According to them, Apple would not make the iPhone SE its current priority. Based on information obtained from the Californian firm's subcontractors, they affirm that the next iPhone SE will not be released this year, nor even next year.
Outstripped by the Apple Vision Pro headset
The year 2023 was marked by the announcement of the helmetApple Vision Pro. It will also surely be with the arrival of new iPhone 15s in September and new Apple Watches. The following year, it will be the iPhone 16's turn to shine. Earlier in the year, the spotlight will focus on the mixed reality headset. Indeed, if the latter was seen during the last WWDC, it will only reach the general public in 2024 and only in the United States initially.
2024 is therefore already shaping up to be abusy year, and it's certainly not the iPhone SE that will change anything. Especially since Apple would like to wait until after 2024 to consider putting a new iteration of its entry-level iPhone on the market.
The Barclays report which makes this prediction regarding the probable release window of an iPhone SE 4 does not specify anything in terms of characteristics. The latest rumors on the subjecttalk about aTouch ID sensor under the screen, and aenlarged formatcompared to the current version. And that's it, for now. Not to mention the numerous reports which, at this stage, believe that Apple is still hesitant to release a new iPhone SE, given the rather disappointing sales that the iPhone SE 3 released in 2022 would have experienced.
The iPhone SE, however, retains the potential tobreak into emerging markets, due to its much more accessible price than the standard models arriving in September each year. Even if, in our opinion, it remains, for the moment, more interesting to turn to an old high-end used or reconditioned iPhone model than to consider purchasing the latest iPhone SE.
What do you think? Do you like the iPhone SE and would you like Apple to release a new version of it in the future? Or conversely, do you think Apple should kill this model and focus on other, more interesting projects.
