SO
that the latest data fromARCEPwere counting on a
average data consumption, in France, of2,4 Go par
user, we wanted to check for ourselves what was the
trending among our readers. At the same time, it was also an opportunity to
take an interest in the evolution of consumption since ourprevious
similar survey last year.
Over the past year, in particular, we have seen mobile plans gain in
"Internet data", especially recently, with a race for new subscribers
without thanks. Some operators have thus increased to 100 GB inclusive, like Red
by SFRwhile Free pushes the limits and now offers a
envelope
unlimited for Freebox subscribers.
So, do these impressive offers reflect a need? Or
Is it simply window dressing to lure the subscriber? Only one
way to find out:
a survey carried out here, of which we will discover the result
immediately !
Your consumption
To the next question, "How much 3G/4G data do you consume in
general per month", several answers were proposed: less than 500 MB,
500 to 1000 MB, 1 to 2 GB, 2 to 3 GB, 3 to 5 GB, 5 to 10 GB and More
de 10 Go.
Of nearly 2,200 participants, more than a third, precisely37
%reported consumingmore than 10 GBevery month.
The exact half is between 2 and 10 GB of data each month, when only
6% remain less than 1 GB monthly.
In more detail, approximately one in five drives uses between 3 and 5 GB, ditto
between 5 and 10 GB, almost 2 out of 5 drives use more than 10 GB, the rest use
tiebreaker between 2, 1 and less than 1 GB with a small 2% below 500 MB
monthly.
Comments indicate that watching videos and watching television are
responsible for heavy consumption. This sometimes even in modem mode
home, since it happens for some that 4G is faster or more
stable than the fixed ADSL connection. This is particularly the case in certain
remote places in the territory, but it also happens in areas
city girl!
For large consumptions, some of you well equipped listed
packages even indicate exceeding 100 and even 200 GB of mobile data
monthly.
Comparison and evolution since 2016
Last year, the survey gave the following results:
- 37% for the section over 5 GB, much less than the 57% of this
year - 52% in the 1 to 5 GB bracket compared to 38% this year
- 12% consumed less than 1 GB (7% this year)
We therefore clearly have a marked growth in one year with a __progression
20 points for the “more than 5 GB” bracket. There is consequently less
users below the 1 GB mark (-5 points) and fewer users in
the intermediate bracket “1 to 5 GB” (-14 points).
This increase was probably accompanied by mobile subscriptions of
increasingly supplied with data, a 2016 trend which has especially accelerated
in recent weeks. At the same time, internet uses are increasingly
gourmands: photo and video exchanges at ever higher resolution
high, music streaming but also video withYouTube,
Twitch,Molotovand services like
Netflixor evenCanalplay. Finally, 4G
gains in coverage and quality throughout the territory, promoting
consumption.
This use of mobile data should not slow down, since we have exceeded
this year with Free the stadiumthe limited data envelope,
even if the offer remains reserved for landline subscribers. To the competition,
subscriptions to 100 GB of data could well become the norm in the medium term
term.
At the same time, new technologies such as 4G+ and 5G are in progress.
preparation, which could relegate the ADSL box and the home wi-fi to
role of a backup connection.
