According to several rumors,Apple would integrate a USB-C chargerand a USB-C to Lightning cable in the box of the next iPhones. This allows you to benefit from fast charging from day one.
Last week, we learned via the Japanese site Macotakara that this charger would not benot sold separately, at least initially. According to the same source, only certain models of 18W chargers could charge the next iPhones quickly.
For users who want a fast charger in two different places, it seems that thechoice of chargers would be limited. According to Macotakara sources, only certain certified chargers are compatible with fast charging.
Macotakara's report claims that even if a third-party charger offers 18W of power, the iPhone would only draw 2.5W from it. To be compatible with fast charging, you would need a charger and a cable that respecta precise USB-C authentication standard.
We already imagine that the first certified chargers will come from partners known to Apple. For example, Mophie or the Belkin company bought at the beginning of the year by Foxconn.
To offer an MFi-certified third-party charger next year, accessory manufacturers will have to integratea specific component. Which would beselon Macotakara, a Lightning chip bearing the reference “C48B”.
As a reminder, this 18 W charger would allow compatible iPhones to recover 50% battery in 30 minutes. Which is much better than the 5 W charger currently provided, and which barely allows you to reach 20% in 30 minutes. We could see it inthis comparison of recharge times.
