Spotify returns to the charge against Apple and its App Store, before the European Commission

Spotifypersists in his battle
against Apple.Last year already,
the Swede complained of anti-competitive practice on the part of Apple in
regarding music streaming, with European authorities.
The investigation by the Brussels Commission did not then reveal any activity
reprehensible on the part of the Cupertino company. This time, Spotify has
joined with others, asDeezer, but also
EnglishFoundem, price comparison specialist on
internet, to carry aonce again complaint against
Apple
:

Daniel Ek, co-founder of Spotify, but also Hans-Holger Albrecht, CEO
of Deezer, believe that they are not fighting on equal terms against Apple Music, in this
which concerns online music streaming. In fact, Applededuct 30%
on any income
made through the App Store. Thus, a user
wanting to subscribe to Spotify on your iPhone via the App Store must pay the price
fort,13 euros per month, 3 for Apple and 10 for the service
provided. In comparison, a user subscribing on the internet without going through
the App Store would only pay10 euros per month.

For Apple Music, it's obviously different. That a user subscribes to the
service on the computer or on your iPhone, the price remains the same,10
euros per month
.

This is how several managers of large European tech companies
united their voice to put pressure on the European Commission.
They are waiting for measures to be put in place against the giants that are Apple,
Amazon, and others, and who take advantage of their dominant position to keep a
advantage over the competition in different areas.

You should know that the Californian company had already made an effort in this
meaning: a Spotify or Deezer subscriber using the App Store on the iPhone
actually pays 30% more than the normal rate, butduring the
first year of subscription only
. In the following years, this
taxe App Storedrops to 15%. This change obviously did not
not enough to appease the camp of European services, who still believe that they do not
play on an equal footing.

This controversy recalls two similar antecedents in the tech sphere.
One concerned Microsoft a few years ago, which had been punished for
abuse of dominant positionin relation to imposing
Internet Explorer by default on older versions of Windows.
The other was aimed at Google
, who, after having been accused by numerous companies
tech for having imposed its services on Android smartphones, was
reprimanded by the European Commission.

It remains to be seen how Brussels reacts.
