Tim Cook announces Vision Pro release date outside the United States

Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset will be released in China in 2024. Tim Cook has just said this during an interview with Chinese media, a first since the deployment of sales of the device outside the United States is expected. We don't have a specific month or day yet, but rumor has it that the manufacturer plans to tell us more just before its Worldwide Developer Conference. The event would be planned for June, but we are also waiting to learn more about its precise schedule. In any case, it would be surprising to see Cupertino change its habits, but the company actually has the habit of organizing the show at this time of year.

With China, other countries could soon have Vision Pro tests in Apple Stores. Among these, we can notably cite the case of Japan,Franceor even Germany. Regions regularly invested by Apple, and which are at the heart of its most prolific markets. Note, however, that the company still positions itself as an outsider in the field of virtual reality, because the sales figures for Meta's mixed reality headsets (formerly Oculus VR) are much higher. This could in particular be explained by more affordable pricing, where you would have to pay the tidy sum of 4,000 euros for the current pointed frame.

The price remains unknown

Please note, however, that for the moment we cannot know how much the Apple Vision Pro will cost in Europe. At least, for its new version available in official stores. In fact, we can already find the device for resale on exchange sites between individuals, most often second-hand.Rental offers also exist.

For comparison, note that the price of the Vision Pro in the United States is set at no less than3 499 dollars. Without taxes, which can vary from nothing to several dozen euros depending on the buyer's postal code.

$3,499 is quite simply almost ten times more expensive than some competing alternatives, notably, again, from Meta.

A more affordable model would be on the way

By 2027, Apple could still unveil a Vision headset that is more affordable than the first version.The price could be half as much, but still with excellent display quality for the screen installed in front of the eyes. In reality, there are three of them on the Vision Pro. Two are 4K definition and installed indoors, for the delight of our peepers, and another is located outside and is responsible for broadcasting your gaze to those around you, with the functionality called EyeSight.

Apple's new “budget” mixed reality headset could also be more comfortable, in all likelihood. Thus correcting one of the major faults of its predecessor: today, it is difficult to confirm the value proposition of theVision Proas a true “space computer”. And for good reason: where work sessions lasting several hours are possible without pain with a good workstation based on a Mac, it is difficult to say the same without tiring your back or neck with visionOS.

The Apple Vision Pro was released in February by Uncle Sam, after being presented to the general public during WWDC in June 2023. This is also where its operating system was presented, integrating native apps like Photos, Messages or Mail, also available on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
