A size change expected on iPhones next year

This year, Apple increased the screen dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, going to6.3 and 6.9 inchesagainst6.1 and 6.7 inchesfor the 15 Pro models from 2023. According to rumors, the firm intends to continue this momentum in 2025, but not all iPhone 17s would be in the same boat. Some models would see their dimensions change, while others would retain their current format. Here's what awaits you.

For the Pros, changes in size, but not in size!

If the informants do not announce a change in screen size for the iPhone 17 Pro, remember that the 16 Pro has already been entitled to an increase this year. On the other hand, they would benefit from amuch more efficient anti-reflective glassthan that of the 15 Pro and 16 Pro. As a reminder, the anti-reflective treatment of the iPhone 16 Pro is less effective than that of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra:

Apple should therefore make up for this delay with the next iPhone models. The iPhone 16 Pro still offersa screen twice as resistantthan any other smartphone, but it doesn't have anti-glare capabilities similar to the S24 Ultra.

The iPhone 17 Pro should be entitled to another new feature according to tipster Jeff Pu from Haitong:a smaller Dynamic Island. This is possible thanks to a change of lenses. Instead of the usual curved format, Apple would switch to metalens, which is as MacRumors reminds us:a thin, flat lens with microscopic patterns etched on it that can focus light more precisely. This allows for a more compact format.

Let's also remember that another major design change was announced by informants based on data from Apple's supply chain, butthis rumor was later denied.

An even bigger 17 Plus?

On the classic iPhone 17 side, no developments planned, the diagonal would remain at6.1 inches. The 17 Plus, on the other hand, would see its screen size reduced to6.5-6.6 inchesagainst 6.7 currently. Another point in common with the Pro, all iPhone 17s would benefit from the same anti-reflective treatment as the S24 Ultra.

MoreTHE big noveltywould bethe adoption of a 120 Hz refresh rateacross the entire range.
It remains to be seen whether it will be ProMotion with a variable rate of 1 to 120 Hz like on the Pros. The name of this technology suggests that it could remain a “Pro” exclusive.

Finally, these four models could be joined bya mysterious iPhone 17 Air, even thinner and lighter. This newcomer would complement the four existing options (17, 17 Plus, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max). Rumors also claim that this model would replace the iPhone 17 Plus, butnothing is sure about this.
