Currently, watchOS 9.4 is still in beta testing. We are at thewithout RC, for Release Candidate, theoretically the last trial iteration of the software before releasing a final version for everyone. Release which should happen next week, according to what Apple has accustomed us to so far.
If iOS 16.4, which follows the same evolution pattern as watchOS 9.4, israther full of new products, for the system intended for the Apple watch, it is more frugal. We notedsome improvements and bug fixes, notably one concerning the calibration of the battery of the Apple Watch Series 6, as well as another concerning the alarm function.
No more excuses for the alarm clock that didn't ring
To fully understand the new feature that we are detailing here, you need to understand how the watch works and in particular the “Cover to mute” function. This setting, available in the watchOS settings, when activated, allows the Apple Watch wearer to quickly silence their watch by covering it for 3 seconds with their hand. This can be practical in certain situations. Unfortunately, it can happen that this feature is activated by accident, especially at night.
For example, when the user sleeps with his or her watch and he or she has activated an alarm clock in the evening, the alarm clock may sometimes not go off in the morning following an unexpected activation of this “Cover to mute” during the night during body and wrist movements.
With watchOS 9.4, “Cover to mute”no longer has the effect of silencing scheduled wake-ups.
So, you will have to find other excuses to justify potential delays at school, work, or an important appointment. In any case, this is excellent news for all those who sleep with their watch on their wrist and who use both the alarm clocks on watchOS and the “Cover to mute” function.
