We first discussed this matterin this article where Facebook seemed well on its way to
acquire Waze, but it was without counting onGoogle which was also on the
ranks.
Waze is a free community GPS application that wins a franc
success on the App Store.
Wazeseems to have managed his boat rather well since
Google is reportedly about to write a check for $1.3 billion
dollars.
If we are to believe the latest rumors, two elements would have been
determining factors in the choice of Waze:
- They will be able to stay in Israel with Google while with Facebook, they
should have moved to California (an idea that did not sit well with the members
the Waze)
- 1.3 billion dollars for Google against 1 billion for Facebook
Thus, Waze, which also provides Apple with its data on Israel for Plans,
would be very close to coming under the Google fold.
It remains to be seen whether community GPS users will appreciate (or
not) this news.
