iOS 15: Siri no longer needs the Internet

As WWDC beganthis Monday evening with a first Apple conference, the Apple brand was quick to make announcements around the new features of our iPhone and iPad.FaceTime was thus entitled to its share of new features, as well as the Photos app. Regarding the issue of privacy, very dear to Apple, the Apple brand has just struck a major blow by announcing the possibility of using Siri locally, without an internet connection.

This announcement is a great first in the world of voice assistants and immediately places Siri in first place in terms of their confidentiality. In fact, the Apple brand explained that a certain number of requests can now be made without Siri being connected to the internet, as was the case until now. The Cupertino company thus allowed itself a small demonstration of this new feature during its conference, asking the iPhone's voice assistant to set an alarm clock, a timer or even open the calendar. All in airplane mode.

Even safer emails

Apple also took advantage of these announcements around the issue of privacy to present a brand new feature within its Mail application. The latter should in fact hide the “metadata” of the emails you send so that they are not reused by third parties for commercial purposes. This “metadata” generally consists of the time the email was sent, the shipping and receiving address, but also the subject of the email. A real gold mine for data brokers.

Finally with regard to confidentiality, and continuing the implementation of confidentiality labels on the App Store, Apple announced this Monday that the firm would implement an “App privacy report”. A feature that allows users to simply know which applications collect data about them, and what this data is (location, contacts, history, etc.).
