Last year, Samsung Display,
a subsidiary of the Korean firm had won a lucrative contractto supply 100 million OLED screens to Applefor the iPhone 8, the
first model from Tim Cook's company to adopt this technology.
And according to a new report, that figure comes fromclimb to 160
million OLED screensthanks to a new contract signed between Apple and
Samsung Display, so that the latter provides 60 million OLED screens
additional for this year. This new deal suggests that
the adoption of the OLED screen could be generalized throughout
the iPhone range.
Indeed, according tothe latest official figures, Apple vend environ
200 million iPhones annually. The huge number of 160
million OLED screens that Samsung Display will supply to the Cupertino company
this year would represent80% of sales.
Such a volume of orders suggests an adoption of the OLED screen for
all the iPhones that would be revealed this yearet
not just for iPhone 8high end.
Additionally, Apple likely has internal forecasts that predict
record iPhone sales this year. The company certainly wants to avoid
stock issues that are commonplace with every iPhone launch.
According to the latest rumors, alongside the iPhone 8, two other iPhones
7s and 7s Plus would be released with fewer new features than the iPhone 8. These two
models, according to the hypothesis of the day, could therefore be equipped with OLED screen
and then become more attractive than expected.
