It's almost there
two years since we discovered a strange battery at the time designed for
the iPhone 5: the Pop'n Charge from the manufacturer PowerSkin.
You canreread
the test, positive, of this mobile charging solution intended for
l’iPhone.
But with the increase in screen size, as well as the capacity of
batteries, this is a new version which has just appeared. More
larger, more powerful, but still as astonishing, here is the
Pop’n2, MFI certified by Apple therefore free from worries of
future compatibility.

After several days of testing used with iPhone 6 but also 6 Plus,
here are photos and our opinion:
Premier contact
Upon unpacking, surprise (unless you already know your little sister), this
battery is particularly surprising and original: it is in fact
made up of a battery block with a rounded shape on the sides and displayed on
one of its faces,a myriad of small, flexible suction cups
without forgetting a funny curved connection connected to a microphone jack
USB.
This cable can be removed if necessary, and can even be replaced by another
model intended to power a machine with a micro charging port
USB.I Here it is the “Lightning” version for iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus which is
provided.
The case is delivered with a micro USB cable, this will be used for
recharge. There is also a very thin and light, transparent shell, which
allows you to protect your machine while ensuring a good grip on the suction cups.
But our tests showed that even on the bare iPhone 6, no problem,
the whole thing holds up well. So it’s a bonus case in the iPhone 6 format.
The battery is brilliant, suffice to say the finger marks are
visible.
At the back, a button allows you toknow the level of
charge, it illuminates blue LEDs, 4 lit indicate that the
battery is at full capacity. They light up when charging to
indicate the level reached. Reminder: this type of indicator is
essential when choosing a battery, so we are not surprised to
ending up with an empty battery when you thought it was
loaded!
Let's take two minutes to examine the difference between this 2014 model and
the one
tested before: the capacity has doubled, going from 2000 to 4000 mAh.
As a result, the battery is very, very slightly thicker (this is
hardly perceptible in the hand) and higher by approximately 1.5 cm.
In practice, we see that batteries have progressed, because the doubling of
the capacity is not accompanied by a doubling of the volume in this specific case.
So much the better, we'll be able to recharge more!
You will find the
precise technical details and dimensions here on the manufacturer's website
The battery has a stated capacity of 4000 MAh. This capacity should
allow you to fully recharge the iPhone 6, and partially the iPhone 6
Plus, we will see the results of our measurements in the rest of the test.
Utilisation
This type of battery, unlike shells which can be placed in
place all day is best kept with you (pocket, bag) in case of
need. The use and installation are extremely simple and
fast.
When you need to recharge the iPhone, simply unplug the
gray curved cable, to position the battery on the back of the iPhone
and press lightly, POP, the suction cups have their effect, the whole thing is
supportive, securely attached to the iPhone and will only come off by pulling on it
vigorously.
You must then reconnect the cable so that it connects the mini-USB socket of
the battery to the lightning port of the iPhone (or iPod touch), this is done
without difficulty.
We will focus for a moment on the advantages and disadvantages of this
connexion.
Firstly, the flexible suction cups and cable allow it to adapt to
rigid iPhone protection such as a plastic case so it will not be
necessarily necessary to remove the iPhone from its protection in these cases. By
However, this hanging system is not suitable for leather, a surface
grainy or a case that is too soft a priori (but not tested due to lack of having one of
available).
And there we note a very small change, but it is important, given the
previous model. in fact, we see that the Lightning socket is slightly
raised, this will allow the battery to be used with various models of
shells, which was not necessarily the case when the thickness of this
The latter prevented the plug from being fully retracted. Very good
improvement.
As soon as the battery and the iPhone are connected, as long as the battery is
charged, the iPhone is powered and charges. It is nevertheless possible if we
If desired, stop the charging by pressing and holding the button
rear of the hull. To restart charging, simply carry out
another long press.
Concerning the charging of the iPhone, here is the result of our
tests:
- iPhone 6: starting at 1%, after 45 minutes, we had reached 52
% charge, after 2h20, it was at 100%. There are then 2 bars out of 4 remaining
the battery, enough to do at least half an additional charge.
- iPhone 6 Plus: in 45 minutes, we go from 1 to 46%, after 1h30,
the battery is completely drained and the machine is back up to 85%
The battery, as we have seen, is recharged with a micro-USB cable provided, this one
can be plugged into the iPhone's USB transformer or into a
computer.
Note in this case that this also allows the synchronization of
the iPhone (and its charging). If you have multiple devices using this
type of cable, you can then do without the Lightning cable.
Regarding use: connection, installation and handling,
no particular criticism to make of this solution, it is even very good
suitable for holding in the hand and does not hinder any function, the photo cell by
example remains largely clear at the back on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. However,
if the battery can be used with an iPhone 5/5s, it then hides the
photo cell, but does not protrude at all on the sides or at the top.
To remove the battery, you have to pull quite hard, a sign that it is very
well hung.
Conclusion
In the end, from a surprising and not necessarily very sexy perspective, we have here a
hybrid charging solution, between the hull which must be installed in
permanence, and the classic external battery with USB port for which it is necessary
take a cable with you. A solution which thereforecan be used to
will, time to give the mobile a boost, before putting it away
new in pocket or bag.
In practice, the capacity is very interesting and adapts to the most popular machines.
more recent ones such as the iPhone 6 and partly the iPhone 6 Plus. Her
template also allows it to be used on an iPhone 5/5s. We stay
very positive about this solutionwith a version 2 which corrects
the very small defects of the original version.
- The
iPhone battery “Pop n2” is sold hereat the price of 59.99 euros on the date of
carrying out the test (the price may be lower or different in the days,
next weeks and months so check!)
