Telegram messaging appis experiencing a meteoric rise, recently crossing the threshold of 950 million active users. Its creator, Pavel Durov, does not intend to stop there and is now aiming for the ambitious goal of one billion users. This exponential growth is accompanied by major projects, including the imminent launch of a proprietary application store and an integrated browser compatible with web3 technologies (decentralized web based on blockchain).
A big leap towards one billion followers
Telegram's popularity continues to grow, attracting new users at a rapid pace. Last March, the application already claimed 900 million users. On his channel, Durov confidently asserted thatthe app will reach one billion this year.
This rapid expansion is accompanied bynew initiatives aimed at strengthening the attractiveness of the platform. At the end of 2022, Telegram launched the sale of usernames on the TON blockchain (The Open Network), which allows its users to acquire and own unique nicknames via blockchain technology. An approach that is explicitly part of its strategy of supporting cryptocurrencies and blockchain projects.
Additionally, the app now shares advertising revenue with channel owners by distributing toncoins, an additional initiative fordrive engagement and monetization within the Telegram ecosystem.
Diversify the offer thanks to an app store
Telegram is not resting on its laurels, however, and aims to considerably enrich its offering. The application is getting readyto unveil its own application store as well as an integrated browser compatible with web3 technologies. Why do it? To offer a richer user experience and attract a community of developers wishing to create mini-applications and games using cryptocurrencies for transactions.
Durov explained, again on his channel: “Soon, Telegram will display the registration date and primary country of public accounts, like Instagram. Additionally, we will offer organizations the ability to use their mini-apps to issue labels to channels, establishing a decentralized marketplace for third-party verification". In other words, this will create a system where different organizations can verify and authenticate accounts, making everything more transparent and secure.
Since its beginnings as a simple encrypted instant messenger, Telegram continues its transformation to transform itself intotrue multifunctional digital ecosystemby integrating more and more advanced functionalities.
