It was definitely a very informative interview. This Monday, Tim Cook participated in the “Sway” podcast fromNew York Timespresented by Kara Swisher. He spoke in particular on the question of the regulation of application stores. Several countries are in fact working on the idea of authorizing the establishment of rival stores to the App Store to bring more competition.
“Apple has helped build an economy that generates more than $500 billion a year”
The executive responded by saying his company was making great efforts when it came to security. Strict monitoring that would be necessary to protect iPhones:
In any given week, 100,000 apps enter app review. 40,000 of them are rejected. Most are because they don't work or because they don't match their description. You can imagine if this curation disappeared, what would happen to the App Store in a very short period of time.
Kara Swisher then raised it again, wondering why there couldn't be rival app stores run by other companies. Tim Cook believes his company deserves to benefit from the fruits of his labor: “Apple helped build an economy worth more than $500 billion a year, and gets a tiny portion of that back for the innovation it enabled through store fees.».
Finally, the CEO of the apple brand also returned to the reduction in commission applied since the start of the year: “And then with our recent initiative with small developers, those who earn less than a million dollars per year pay 15%. It turns out that it isthe vast majority of developers.»
During this interview, Tim Cook also addressed the issue ofautonomous cars. A technology that he considers decisive for the future, although he refuses to say whether or not an Apple Car project is in the pipeline for his company.
