Apple Car: Kevin Lynch would have taken charge of the project

Although it has never been confirmed by the Cupertino company, the Apple Car project, which would be nicknamed Titan internally, has been widely talked about for several years. Many rumors about the company's plans have already reached us and we can regularly hear that a manager has left the adventure or that another has joined.

The information ofBloombergis nevertheless major since the American media affirms that Kevin Lynch, head of software for the Apple brand and one of the best placed in the hierarchy, would take charge of this autonomous car project. He would replace Douglas Field who has just signed with Ford.

A launch in 2024?

As a reminder, Lynch is known for his work on the Apple Watch and Apple health applications. Our colleagues indicate, however, that it has already been operating on the Titan project since this summer.

Moreover, his appointment also suggests the idea that Apple has decided to focus on autonomous systems and the software part, rather than on the physical design of the vehicle. The question of whether this project will lead to a real car being put on sale or to systems that would be marketed to manufacturers still remains open.

As a reminder, rumors recently reported a launch of large-scale production of the Apple Car planned for 2024. And according to Taiwanese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo two subcontractors would have been involved:LG Electronics et SK Group.

For his part, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry,Akira Yoshino, estimates that the Tech giant is aiming to start marketing in 2025 and should even make the Apple Car official at the end of the year. In the same interview, the Japanese prefers to remain cautious and specifies that this is “his personal hypothesis”.

We will follow the next developments in this matter with interest but the appointment of Kevin Lynch, if confirmed, would validate the idea that Apple is taking this project very seriously.
