Apple begins producing iPhone 14 “Assembled in Brazil”

Apple has been seeking to break away from Chinese factories for many years. Relations between Beijing and Washington are not in good shape, and the Apple brand does not want to become one of the undesirable consequences of an economic and political war between the two powers.

In order to continue producing even if an embargo were to appear in the Middle Kingdom, Apple is trying to find new partners. Still in Asia, Apple subcontractors work in particular with India and Vietnam. These two countries have the particularity of offering an inexpensive and fairly competent workforce.

But Apple is not limited to South East Asia tothe creation of its iPhone. Recently a Foxconn factory (one of Apple's largest subcontractors) opened its doors in Brazil. The South American country has even started producing blue iPhone 14s a few days ago.

Brazil: new promised land for Apple?

According to the local magazine MacMagazine, the Sao Paulo factory would therefore be at the origin of this unprecedented production for the South American continent. In the market, several “classic” iPhone 14s were found with the identifier “BR/A” confirming that they were indeed built in Brazilian factories.

If this production of iPhone 14 is unique in the South American country, it is not the first time that Sao Paulo has produced its own Apple phones. Last year the factory hadalready built iPhone 13s. For several months, SE models have been assembled within the walls of the latter, occupying a large part of the production line.

In order to preserve the local economy, Brazil has implemented high import taxes. Products arriving from abroad are therefore very expensive and inaccessible for a large part of the population. But Apple does not want to sit on a potential customer base of 200 million people.

The Apple brand therefore chose to install one of its subcontractor's factories in the country, thus reducing the price of the iPhone on the domestic national market. This same idea has guided Apple's development in India, the most populous country in the world.
