The
American justice authorized Kodak, in notorious difficulties, on July 4
lastto sell its portfolio containing more than 1100 patents
while Apple had filed a complaint. This aimed to prevent this sale
since the apple brand considered that'about ten
patents were rightfully his, especially the few who
are the result of a collaboration between the two companies during the 1990s.
These led to one of the first digital cameras for
the general public called QuickTake.
But Apple hasn't said its last word:
Information revealed by the Wall Street Journal tells us that
the auction will indeed take place from August 8 and that
two consortia are involved to get their hands on the two batches of
patents that Kodak hopes to value at $2.6 billion. The
first batch brings together patents relating to capture and processing
images on cameras, smartphones and tablets
and the second brings together among other things mainly the patents relating
for image storage and analysis.
Without much surprise, the first group of companies is made up
d’Applewho wishes to recover the patents of his former
partner, Microsoft and an American company specializing in
patent management company called Intellectual Ventures. And opposite, the second
consortium is made up of another American giant Google,
Samsung, HTC, LG and also a company specializing in the management of
patents named RPX.
This auction in which these large companies will participate
doesn't remind you of anything? Last year, a consortium made up of the firm of
Cupertino, Microsoft, RIM, EMC, Sony and Ericsson won 6,000 patents
Canadian telecommunications giant Nortel for the sum of 4.5 billion
dollars against Google and Intel.
