Apple Plans is forced to change because of a French law

Passed a year ago, the “climate and resilience” law will come into force in the coming weeks and it should change a lot of our habits. Among the changes provided for by this law, some are more predictable than others. In the category of things that no one expected, we find prevention carried out withinGPS applicationslike Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps or even Coyote.

Prevention messages for ecology

Several messages could remind you that you need to carpool, take public transport, or limit your travel as much as possible to reduce our ecological footprint. So many small ads which should allow«to support on the one hand the transition of uses towards low-carbon mobility, by acting in particular on digital travel assistance services, and on the other hand, to regulate the negative externalities of the use of these digital services»,ensures the decree.

In practice, navigation applications will therefore be obliged to display an awareness message concerning alternatives to the use of an individual vehicle. The latter must be«clearly distinguishable, without necessary action»of the user who ensures the text of the law.

But the decree does not stop there. Indeed, other information will appear to the user when searching for a route. It concerns the«quantities of greenhouse gases and air pollutants emitted by the mode(s) of transportation used for each suggested route.»Requests which are in tune with the times, Google having already implemented all these measures withinson application « Maps ».

Secondary axes: the Eldorado of GPS applications

Finally, the last major axis of this law essentially concerns Waze. The application is in fact very criticized in rural areas because it sends hundreds of motorists onto country roads and into peaceful communities. Choosing these secondary routes generally allows you to save a few euros, avoiding tolls, but hampers the quality of life of local residents.

Complaints that the law has heard, the latter wanting that applications “strive to offer the user a route that avoids the massive use of secondary roads not intended for intensive traffic».The decree, extremely precise, will come into force in the coming days, announcing in its body that it takes effect “at the next update of the application”.

Suffice to say that Waze, Apple Maps, Google Maps and even Coyote will experience major changes between now and the start of the school year. Regarding the brand's solution to Apple, the Cupertino company could play the patience card, waitingthe definitive arrival of iOS 16in a big month to make all these changes.
