While the Apple Car project has been stopped, the apple firm has just published a rather unusual patent. This is an innovationinteresting, which offersput an end to car mirrors. The idea is toreplace them with cameras, with a projection at the level of the car windshield. The patent offers several display options.
No more blind spots?
The advantage of such a system is to providea more complete view than conventional mirrors can provide. What the cameras see would be projected onto the vehicle's windshield, to avoid turning your head and performing all controls manually, whether looking at mirrors or blind spots. Patently Apple, which spotted the patent, reports on this subject:
In a conventional vehicle, the mirrors are located separately from the front windshield, so a driver or other vehicle passenger must look away from the windshield to check the mirrors before changing lanes, braking or take further action. If care is not taken, the risk of collision can be increased when the user looks away from the front windshield to check the mirrors. Apple's patent aims to remedy this problem.
The patent offers several display modes, either a head-up display, surface laminated screen, or directly in the dashboard screen. This is also not the first patent to offer cameras instead of traditional rear-view mirrors. As 9to5 mac recalls: “Honda, for example, launched this system as an option in 2019”:

More economical and safer?
This system could be more economical: the fact that there are no mirrors allowsreduction of aerodynamic drag.
In terms of safety, this offers a certain advantage by eliminating blind spots, but not only that. At night, thisavoid being dazzledby the headlights of other road users, although it is true that many cars are now equipped with anti-glare filters.
