Snapchat, the social network with 432 million users known for its photos and ephemeral messages, has just arrived on iPad. Launched in 2011 on the iPhone, the application has just made the leap to the Apple brand's tablets. A welcome update, awaited for years by users.
Until now it was possible to useSnapchat on an iPadbut the application was the same as in iOS. It was not optimized for the Apple brand's tablets and huge black borders spoiled the user experience. This is no longer the case with the latest version of the application.
Snapchat wakes up too late
However, the arrival of Snapchat on iPad this late may not have a big impact for the social network. For several years, with the emergence of TikTok in particular, Snapchat has been losing momentum. If the application has always focused its content on stories (its trademark), the development of the latter on other social networks, starting withInstagram, killed Snapchat.
If the social network is not on the ground, far from it with more than 400 million active users, it is now far behind Instagram, TikTok and other content generating platforms. It is difficult to think that the arrival of a tablet version will change anything in this dynamic.
A version 1.0 not yet at the top
The arrival of this version for iPad does not even seem to generate much traction internally. The application was only developed to work in portrait mode, it is impossible to use Snapchat in landscape on the iPad. A choice that is still difficult to understand, especially when we know that evenApple focused on using landscape mode, by moving the camera on the edge of the tablet.
