Theversion 12 d’iOS, which should arrive this fall, includes many new features, including more than 60 described here, and will support new technologies regarding augmented reality.ARKitwill be updated to version 2 and will offerability to use a new virtual object file format, USDZ. And Shopify, an online store creation platform, will allow its users to offer these files on their store. Thus, visitors coming to do their shopping will be able to view products before purchasing, augmented reality, in their living room, thevery simply via Safari:
Daniel Beauchamp, director of virtual and augmented reality at Shopify, offered a demonstration of the technologyici.
He therefore specifies that with iOS 12, users on iPhone and iPad will be able to go to a store created via Shopify, and, if the seller has integrated the corresponding USDZ files into his items for sale, each product will be visible in augmented reality in his house. The preview will therefore be as close as possible to reality, practical, before going to checkout.
All this does not require any dedicated third-party app. It is possible to benefit from itsimply by browsing the store via the Safari app for example. The only condition is that the seller has integrated the USDZ files for each of them into their product sheets.
These will also be downloadable and can even be shared by message to get, for example, the opinion of a friend. The latter, with an ARKit compatible iOS 12 device, will be able to see the object in augmented reality from their side.
Shopify will therefore be one of the first platforms of its kind to offer such integration of ARKit augmented reality for its products. We imagine that other sellers should follow this trend. This is particularly practical for furniture and decorative objects, which is already well understoodIkea, which offersits Ikea Places app on the App Store, describedici, and which allows you to integrate a piece of furniture from the catalog into your living room in augmented reality.
