A class action launched against the much criticized butterfly keyboard

In 2015, Apple presented its new MacBook to the general public. This notably had the particularity of embedding a revisited keyboard, calledbutterfly keyboard. More precisely, it is the mechanism of its keys which has in fact been changed: goodbye scissors, hello “butterfly” assembly. Interesting… But failed. Indeed, after only a few days of purchase, users quickly complained of serious malfunctions.

As a user of this famous keyboard myself, I can only confirm the figures ofAppleInsiderensuring that twice as many errors are made as with other models. Suffice to say that this is a serious problem, especially when writing articles. So much so thatUNITED STATES, consumers asserted their rights and decided to take the apple company to court,as reported by Maxime in 2018.

Refunds at stake?

Since then, the case has, as is often the case, dragged on in the courts for many months. But a judge has officially given the status ofgroup actionon file. Calledclass actionon the other side of the Atlantic, this procedure arrived in France more than sixty years later, in 2014. It allows customers to file a complaint in groups, which often allows the message to have more impact than alone.

Depending on the number of plaintiffs and the outcome of the hearings, it is possible that Apple will have to pay legal costs at the end of this legal battle.damagesto its disappointed users. This won't be the first time:the reconditioning of iPhones has also been singled out in similar circumstances. In this type of case, most of the time millions of dollars are at stake, which are then divided between each victim.

France left aside

In France, however, we will have to make do with the newMagic Keyboardreintroduced at the end of 2019 with the MacBook Pro with a sixteen-inch display. Otherwise, it is also possible to go to the Apple Store, but the procedure takes time. For my part, I continue to support the butterfly keyboard: in the official store, I was last assured that I would have to keep my computer for three weeks to simply change the keyboard... And this without any replacement solution during this period of time .

Thanks the real Magic Keyboard, Bluetooth, which I've been using separately ever since.
