iOS 11.3 beta 2: How the battery life indicator works and how to jailbreak the CPU

After confirming that iOS has a
power management feature that slows down the performance of
iPhone with a worn battery, the Cupertino company launched a program
worldwide used iPhone battery replacement at a reduced price. We have
explainin this
article
how this program works.

Apple had also promised the integration into iOS of tools allowing
monitor battery wear status and an option to turn off the mode
performance management. These latter areavailable since yesterday
evening
Inthe second beta
d’iOS 11.3
.

Here ishow does the wear indicator work
battery
and the option tounbridle the
processor
from iPhone:

It is possible to find these new tools under iOS 11.3 by going to
in the appSettings, then in the section
"Battery", there is a new menu called "État
battery
".

Maximum capacity

On this new page, there are two parts, the first "Ability
maximum
" et "Optimal performance capacity".

Maximum capacity measures and indicatesthe current capacity of the
battery
compared to that offered when the iPhone was turned on
for the first time, when the battery was new.

The battery starts at 100% and chemically degrades over time.
measurement of the time that passes and its use gradually reducing
the capacity.

Apple estimates that under normal use conditions, a battery
iPhone is designed to retain up to80% of its capacity
original after 500 complete charge cycles
, which is equivalent to
approximately 2 years of use.

Optimal performance capacity

The “Optimal Performance Capability” section will display several messages
and indicate whether the performance management feature is enabled. Get there
also finds the possibility of deactivating the option in question to
unblock the processor.

As a reminder, this performance management feature is available
only onles iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus,
iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
.

She doesn'tactivates automatically only after the first shutdown
unexpected
on a device with a worn battery and whose capacity is
insufficient to provide the energy requested by the processor.

Five different messagesmay appear below
“Optimum performance capability”:

  • Your battery can currently support a capacity of
    performance optimale normale.
  • This iPhone turned off unexpectedly because the battery couldn't
provide the optimal energy needed. Performance management mode has been
enabled to prevent this from happening again. Disable…
  • This iPhone is not able to determine the health status of the
battery. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can repair or replace the
battery. Learn more about repair options…
  • This iPhone turned off unexpectedly because the battery couldn't
provide the optimal energy needed. You have manually deactivated the
    performance management protections.
  • The health of your battery has significantly deteriorated. A
Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the battery so that it
regains optimal capacity and performance. Learn more about
    repair options…

The first indicates everything is fine and that there are no problems to report with
the iPhone battery, the second indicates that the battery capacity is
insufficient to provide enough energy to the system andactive
automatically enters performance management mode
who restrains the
processor.

There is an option "Disable" to thenice you
message
which allows you to unblock the processor again, however the
performance management modeautomatically reactivates after
next unexpected stop
, with always the possibility of
manually deactivate it.

The fourth message indicates that the user has indeed disabled the
performance management mode.

The third message indicates that the battery status has not changed.couldn't
be determined
for various reasons, such as installation
incorrect battery or an unknown part contained in the
battery, and recommends changing it.

Finally the fifth and last message indicates that the battery is too
degraded and iOS recommends that the user replace it to find
normal use conditions.

These tools will be available with the upcoming iOS 11.3 release, which
should be available in the spring. In the meantime there isothers
methods
to determine the capacity of the battery and whether it should
to be replaced.
