Bluetooth is one of the most used communication systems today on iPhones. It allows you to connect your phone to third-party devices and accessories like AirPods or Apple Watch. But because of flaws discovered by the French research group Eurecom, Bluetooth is thusa perfect gateway for cyber criminals.
According to their publication, these flaws (six in number) allow an attacker to bypass Bluetooth security systems, even on the latest version of the latter. By being close to the source of the signal, the telephone, a malicious person can recover or falsify data (known as a Man-in-the-Middle or MiM attack).
Cybersecurity researchers want to be reassuring in their publication. The flaws discovered are complex to exploit and it would take great IT talent to take advantage of these small errors in the code of the latest Bluetooth standards to recover personal data about a user.
However, zero risk does not exist and when faced with potential danger, the best thing is to be extra vigilant, even if the risk of a MiM attack is very low.
How to protect yourself against a MiM attack?
In order to protect yourself most effectively against these potential attacks, researchers recommend disabling Bluetooth on your devices as much as possible. It must be said that on the iPhone and iPad, Apple has not made our task easier for several years. If it is possible to activate Bluetooth and Wifi from the control center, it is impossible to completely shut down these systems from the same control center.
The only reliable way to turn off Bluetooth is to go to the iPhone settings. To optimize this action we have developed a shortcut to turn off Bluetooth and Wifi with a single gesture. You can find it in this article.
