Best of iPhone apps: the favorite applications of our editor “Grobubu”

For this now traditional Sunday iPhone apps folder (more than 50 on the counter to consult here), no specific theme this week, but updated favorites from a member of the editorial staff: Grobubu.

Obviously a little more personal than usual, this folder contains my favorite applications that I use almost every day and which I would really have a hard time doing without. In addition to your favorite appsMaxime,PierreorLaurent, here is this famous list.

Productivity

IFTTT

I love simplifying my life. In other words, if you can do things for me I am particularly satisfied. This is exactly what IFTTT (which stands for 'If This Then That') is for. Synchronize my photos on Dropbox or Flickr, it's done. Monitoring websites for me is done too. Wishing my loved ones' birthdays so as not to forget them, don't repeat it, but... it's done too. The possibilities are immense and the service is free so why deprive yourself ;-). We had discoveredthe application and principle in this article.

OneNote

My essential app for both iPhone and iPad is OneNote from Microsoft. It allows me to write down everything I need for the day, to insert files, videos, etc. A real multifunctional tool:

Pocket

A true companion to my RSS feeds and my Twitter account (@Grobubu), the app allows me to set aside articles viewed on the web from the computer, iPhone or iPad in order to read them later. As it synchronizes across all my devices, Pocket is an essential daily tool to help me find everything I have gleaned during my wanderings on the web. Most of the articles you read on the site have been through Pocket at one time or another!

1Password

Having the same password for all sites is a choice made by many Internet users who do not understand the risks they are taking. To avoid this, I chose to use 1Password. A real safe that contains almost all of my digital life, 1Password is present on both my iPhone and my Mac. Thanks to its synchronization via Dropbox, this app allows me to manage all my passwords, card codes and other identifiers without having to remember anything other than THE central password. The integrated browser is very practical, it allows you to launch a site and connect without any input, a joy to use, while not sacrificing security. A paid subscription allows you to benefit from all the features of the service.

Bescherelle Conjugation

Bescherelle is a real institution in France, with the first conjugation books received from children at school. The publisher has not missed the digital boat by offering the Bescherelle Conjugaison application on iPhone and iPad to easily have more than 9,000 verb conjugations in all tenses and modes in your pocket! The search engine even handles typos. In short, an essential for anyone who wants to master their language, written or spoken.

Internet

Twitter

For a long time, the Twitter app on iOS was well below third-party alternatives. But recently, it has gone uphill, to the point that it now seems more than sufficient to me. In particular, it allows multiple accounts and has a fairly pleasant interface to use. Without being a “gas factory”, it fulfills its contract perfectly by offering clear and straightforward access to the blue bird's social network.

i-nfo.fr V2

Obviously, our app is essential for me. If I don't read my own articles (don't push!), it is useful for you to read, comments orsite forum, I consult it regularly. If you are reading us on the move, it is just essential with its cache mode for offline reading, search and favorites:

Entertainment

Google Home

To control a Chromecast key or a Google Home connected speaker, there's no better than the Google Home app, to be installed on the iPhone or iPad. This allows you to make the most of voice functionalities, in particular for the remote management of accessories included in the Google Home ecosystem.

Molotov.tv

We no longer present it, wetalked about it in detail here. But installed on the Apple TV and associated with Netlflix, this replaced the operator box!

Netflix

Who doesn't know Netflix, the video-on-demand service imported from the United States? The iOS app allows you to enjoy your Netflix subscription on iPhone or iPad with access to the various streaming programs via a video player integrated into the app. Works with a monthly subscription allowing access to all content, films and series.

TV Time

Already cited incolleague Snooz's favorite apps, TV Time is the app to have for series fanatics. In particular, it allows you to know the broadcast dates of each episode, to favorite the series you are watching, to check the episodes seen and even to rate them, to access the summary of each episode, and many other things. And it’s free!

Auntie

Deeday is a countdown app. It displays the time remaining before certain major events listed in the calendar. It is also possible to share countdowns with certain people, for example to build excitement before a trip with others. The application is both simple and pretty. And for €0.99, it allows you to override the limitation of 5 simultaneous countdowns.

Sport and health

Cook

Today, it has been 683 days 15 hours 52 minutes and 7 seconds since I last touched a cigarette. How do I know? Thanks to the Kwit application which has been with me since that day. Better yet, I know that I have saved €3,127.64 or even that I have not smoked 10,254 cigarettes since March 2013. When the urge strikes again, a quick glance at Kwit is enough for me to do it pass. A paid subscription allows you to benefit from the full features of the app.

My FitnessPal

And like those who stopped smoking, I unfortunately gained a little weight. To hope to lose weight, I decided to pay a little attention to what I eat. My FitnessPal allows you to set a goal and try to achieve it by calculating each day the number of calories absorbed and those expended. Sure, putting in your meals is a bit tedious, but it really works. To be as accurate as possible, the app can even connect to Runtastic, UP and even Health and take into account calories burned.

Yuka

Yuka allows you to scan products purchased in stores to find out their nutritional quality. The app uses a color code to define whether a scanned product is good for your health or not. If the product is mediocre or bad, the app suggests more recommendable alternatives of equivalent products. Yuka is therefore the perfect ally for any user who wants to pay attention to their diet and what they put in their shopping cart during shopping. We presented this app in more detail in our columns in 2017.

Runtastic

Do we still need to present this app? This is one of the benchmarks in terms of tracking sports outings on iOS. Its ergonomics are successful, the route tracking is clear and precise, and an Apple Watch app is even included. Frankly, if I had to recommend only one app of this type on iPhone, I would choose this one!

Geocaching

With your smartphone, it is possible to participate in the largest treasure hunt in the world, thanks to the Geocaching app. The latter allows you to get your hands on treasures located almost everywhere, in towns and countryside. These objects to be found using the map in the app are called “geocaches”. They often contain a log of visits, and sometimes even a small bonus, provided by another member of the community.

For information, in 2017, the app identified several million geocaches spread across more than 180 countries and even in space, in the international station! So if you like adventure and treasure hunting, don't wait any longer to try this app that I particularly like.

RandoGPS

This is the application to see on your iPhone if you are a fan of hiking. It allows you to follow hiking trails taken from the databasewww.randogps.netor a randogps compatible site. Good point, it is possible to download the track data so you can do without an internet connection once on the road. Only the GPS must remain functional. In short, here is a must-have for serious walkers, but also beginners.

See also the Visorando app, which in the same genre allows you to follow hiking trails on IGN maps. Access to the maps requires a fee, however, but the app is rather pretty and its ergonomics are successful.

Relive

Relive is a special app, still linked to hiking and sport. It allows you to relive an outing in the form of a film, with 3D animations, all based on the photos and videos that you would have taken during the activity, formatted with data such as mileage, altitude, geolocated position, etc. Enough to nicely share your last mountain walk, or create a beautiful digital souvenir of it.

Note taking and document management

My reference for digital document storage isDocuments, but I also useDropboxfrom time to time, as well asPDF Expertfor editing. Finally,Notabilityallows me to access handwritten notes made on the iPad with the stylus. For quick memos I useQuick Noteswhich allows you to simply display a note via a widget.

The games

Finally, I play little on my iPhone, mainly due to lack of time. Therefore, I like games that allow you to play small, quick games. 5 minutes here, 2 minutes there. As you can see, my favorites are more in the “casual gaming” category. From time to time, I don't deny myself a small part of a great classic. Here are my current favorite games:
