Apple had not announced it during the presentation of NameDrop last June, but the functionality should be richer than expected. Indeed, if Apple's explanations have always been limited to contact information, which will be shared simply by bringing two iPhones close to each other, this is not the only data that can circulate in this way.
Indeed, Apple has developed a functionality within NameDrop which allows you to take advantage of this functionality to send data such as transport tickets or even “cards” stored in the Wallet application on your iPhone. This new option, which should arrive withiOS 17.2 next week, is likely to delight millions of users around the world.
How to transfer files from Wallet?
With this new feature, all the user will need to do is open their Wallet application and then bring their phone closer to another iPhone. As if by magic, the data will then be transferred instantly. The user will have a “share” button on their screen to authorize the sending/receiving of data.
This system was also implemented with NameDrop in order to avoid the involuntary leak of personal data with two iPhones too close which could exchange sensitive data without the consent of their owner.
iOS 17.2: stock up on new features before 2024
The iOS 17.2 update should make big changes to our iPhones. In addition to adding this improved version of NameDrop, Apple has been working on other features like the Journal app for several months. An automatic translation of texts using the “action” button on the new iPhone 15 should also see the light of day.
As for other expected features, Apple should allow the creation of new widgets for its weather app. They will be more customizable than today. Finally, the Cupertino company has reportedly revised its wireless charging standards to allow iPhone 13 and later to benefit from faster charging at 15W.
