Faced with the omnipresence ofl’Apple Watchin the premium segment of connected watches, Garmincontinues its offensive in the endurance field with the Instinct 3. The American manufacturer, which has built its reputation on the foolproof solidity of its devices, risks making more than one person fall for it given the great success of the Instinct 2.
A model that shakes up market codesby offering record autonomy, where the various Apple watches still struggle to last more than a day of intensive use. Will this new model help Garmin return to Strava's throne, that Apple stole from him in 2024?
A move upmarket in display
The screen constitutes the most visible metamorphosis of this Instinct 3. Garmin abandons the monochrome MIP (Memory In Pixel) technology of the old generation foraccommodate a 1.3-inch Amoled panel. In addition to adding beautiful colors, the definition of 416 × 416 pixels will guarantee very good readability of the data, even in direct sunlight.
Compared to the previous generation, the design evolves towards a look that conveys a more robust and even less refined image. We like it or not, but Garmin is not known foroffer watches with a minimalist aesthetic.
Permanent displayalways-on, previously reserved for the brand's high-end models, finally appears. This will allow instant consultation of essential information, without having to move the wrist.
Aware of the requirements of their target audience, engineers reinforced the structure of the watch. An imposing metal bezel protects the screen from impacts, while the 10 ATM certified water resistance allows diving up to 100 meters deep. The flashlight function, inherited from the Fenix 8, transforms the screen into a powerful light source – a valuable asset for nighttime outings or emergency situations.
Instinct 3 and the sun: a powerful duo
Garmin teams have increased the efficiency of solar charging five times compared to the Instinct 2 Solar in GPS mode. Result :40 days of battery lifefor the Solar version (the most affordable) while the Amoled model will last 24 days.
The onboard technological arsenal is,as usual, very complete. It includes a barometric altimeter, multi-band GPS, and a very complete suite of sensors dedicated to health monitoring: heart rate measurement, oximetry, heart rate variability (HRV), advanced sleep monitoring and even a temperature sensor which will allow women to follow their menstrual calendar.
She takes chargea multitude of sporting activities; hiking, trail running, swimming, cycling, indoor sports, running; and obviously remains compatible with iOS and Android.
