Update: the public beta is available, see the end of the article for how to install it.
Last night Apple released the firstBeta versionof its new operating program for iPhone, iOS 15.5. Early betas are also available for iPadOS 15.5, watchOS 8.6, HomePodOS 15.5 and tvOS 15.5. Users enrolled in the beta testing program can update their devices.
This series of new test versions brings some interesting changes compared to the previous one, in addition to bug fixes and security vulnerabilities. See instead:
- Apple Classical :The source code for iOS 15.5 contains mentions of what appears to be a new app or at least a new Apple service, called Apple Classical. This would likely be a streaming service dedicated to classical music. His arrival, which until then was only rumor, is therefore confirmed, but for a date still unknown
- Universal Control :Please note, this feature, which arrived under macOS 12.3 and iOS 15.4, only works under macOS beta 12.4 with Apple mobile machines on which iOS or iPadOS 15.5 beta are installed.
- iTunes Pass :this service allows you to use your balance available on the App Store and iTunes to pay for physical purchases, in Apple Stores, via QR code. It should be renamed Apple Account in iOS 15.5 and integrated into Apple Wallet in card form. This is what the iOS 15.5 code shows anyway
- Sports Kit :Apple is improving its tools for tracking sporting events. New mentions were notably detected in the code of the TV app for the announcement of changes in baseball game scores
- Apple Cash :the Apple Cash functionality of Wallet (available in the United States only) has two new buttons “Request” and “Send”, to more easily send and receive money.See details about Apple Cash
- App Store :iOS 15.5 also provides clues for a major new feature prepared by Apple, the possibility for applications to use a payment system other than via the App Store. Initially, only reading applications (ebooks, music, etc.) will benefit from this functionality. Notifications will notably warn users if the application concerned is deleted on the iPhone, to remind them that a subscription is potentially still in progress. Some apps may also indicate, when they are first opened, that payment outside the App Store is possible.
- HomePod :HomePod settings in the Home app display the Wi-Fi connection quality from the speaker using a 3-bar Wi-Fi symbol. When all three are met, the signal is good
Note that macOS is also evolving and moving to version 12.4, with beta 1 at this stage available to testers. Seeour article dedicated to this subject.
