iOS 15: beta 5 available (public)

Version 15 of iOS was announced at the beginning of June 2021, during the last WWDC conference. Immediately after the keynote, the first beta version was made available. The developers were therefore quickly able to testwhat's new in iOS 15on their iPhone, but also tvOS 15, iPadOS 15 and watchOS 8, without forgetting macOS Monterey, the new version of the Mac OS. At the end of June, a second beta of these systems was released, followed by a public beta. In July, iOS 15 improved with a third beta, then a fourth, each time with the corresponding public betas.

Last night it was abeta 5 that Apple has put online. It doesn't seemno major new features compared to beta 4. The Californian firm has probably eliminated many bugs and improved software performance. However, note the following changes:

• Weather App:the icon is now a little darker (on the right in the screenshot below)

• Safari :The page refresh icon has been removed from the floating address bar in the new design. It is always present in the classic view. On iPadOS, a small visual improvement makes it easier to notice an active tab compared to others
• Large icons:on iPadOS, a new option found in the Settings app, “Home screen” section, allows you to increase the size of icons

• Camera :the icon for Control Center and Lock Screen shortcuts is slightly different

• Control center:the Sound Recognition shortcut icon is slightly different
• New setting for location:before turning off the iPhone, a new option appears asking the user to leave the iPhone locatable via the Find app once the device is turned off. The user can also choose to deactivate the functionality so that the machine can no longer be located once it is turned off.

• App Store :if you have an app installed via TestFlight, the App Store page for the app in question is marked accordingly and has a link to TestFlight

• Background sounds:new option to deactivate them when the iPhone is locked, to be found inSettings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Background sounds
• Shortcuts:new icons to personalize your shortcuts

All users with a developer account with Apple can install iOS 15 on iPhone, provided they havea compatible iPhone of course. The same goes for other OSes, includingiPadOS 15etwatchOS 8.

If you do not have a developers account, you can still try to find a developers profile on the internet, but this is not without risk for your machine. We therefore prefer not to advise you on this manipulation. Better to wait for the release of public beta 5 to test the new features,including several dozen that we have listed here.
