iOS 17.1: the French administration reveals the release date, cocorico!

October 18, 2023 Update: iOS 17.1 RC Beta isavailable since Tuesday October 17. This is in line with the release of iOS 17.1 for everyone on October 24.

As we predicted inour article on what’s new in iOS 17.1, this update would arrive at the end of October. And as announced by the National Frequency Agency, or ANFR, D-Day could be theOctober 24.

"At the latest"

The ANFR is this French administrative body which carries out checks on the specific absorption rates (SAR) of smartphones sold in France. He therefore took it upon himself to see if Apple has indeed corrected the situation for itsiPhone 12 with SAR considered too high, since the request of the French state in this sense.

And in fact, he recently announced that he had indeed validated the improvement in the situation thanks to iOS 17.1,as promised by Apple previously. In its press release, the ANFR added that it had received a commitment from the Californian regarding a release window for the update:

The company has committed to rolling out this software update to all French iPhone 12 users by October 24 at the latest.

October 24 being a Tuesday (Apple's preferred day of the week for releasing new OS), this seems consistent to us. Even if iOS 17.1 only has 3 betas at this stage, and with a 4th appearing on October 17, as a Release Candidate, the testing phase would seem very short to us compared to the history of the Cupertino company in this matter. But she certainly had to rush to see the iPhone 12 return to shelves in France. Because for the moment, and until the patch arrives, impossible, in the country, to get your hands on this smartphone.

What's new for iOS 17.1?

We have already mentionedseveral new featureswhat iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 should bring for compatible iPhones and iPads. Apart from this fix for the SAR level of the iPhone 12, we must therefore expect a change for the Action button of the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, the arrival of the functionsDouble tapetNameDropon watchOS 10, the arrival of the functionAirDrop via internet, among other changes and fixes for bugs and security vulnerabilities.

See you next Tuesday to see iOS 17.1 appear in RC beta and on Tuesday October 24, 2023 to download iOS 17.1 in final version.
