iPhone 16: more buttons for more action

If you are a user of the iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max, and/or the Apple Watch Ultra, thebouton Actionis familiar to you. This command, on iPhone in any case, came on the 2023 Pro models to replace the silent mode switch on the left edge of the case. It allows you to launch numerous actions, as its name suggests. If the actions, in fact, can be basic (switch to silent, activate the photo flash or activate a concentration mode for example), some have fun going much further thanks to the Shortcuts app and the possibility, to the button in question, to trigger shortcuts (as can be done by tapping the back of the iPhone).

Until then on iPhone, it is exclusive to the Pro models. But in 2024, the Action button could be the standard and thus appear on the 4 new models 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

2024, iPhone 16, 2025, iPhone SE

In any case, this is what a recent report by MacRumors announces. Furthermore, Apple could well take advantage of this toimprove ordering possibilities. Internally, this work project would be called “Atlas”. Cupertino engineers would seek to give the buttonnew featuresgoing beyond on-off support. It would be a question of adding apressure sensitivityand un improved haptic feedback mechanism. The size of the switch could also change and gain a few millimeters.

And then, in 2025, the Action button could arrive on other iPhones. A fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected this year, possibly with a move from the mute switch to the new Action button. Within 2 years, therefore, possibly, all new iPhones put on the market would have this command introduced this year on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

On Apple Watch, the evolution of the Action button is more vague. This seems until now, and for the medium term future, confined to remaining an exclusivity of the Ultra model.

Notice to those who have an iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max and/or an Apple Watch Ultra, what do you think of this Action button?
