Everything you need to know about the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone Pro Max: technical sheet, price and our opinion

Apple presentedSeptember 9, 2024 iPhone 16. In addition to the “classic” and “Plus” models, Apple has marketed “Pro” and “Pro Max” versions. Here is all the information you need to know about these two variants, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

Introduction

The four iPhone 16 models (16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max) were presented by Apple during its traditional back-to-school conference in September 2024. Named that year« It’s Glowtime », the event also made it possible to unveil the newsApple Watch Series 10as well asAirPods 4with and without noise reduction. Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max began on September 13, 2024, with in-store sales starting 7 days later.

Screen: always bigger

The first big difference this year on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is their screen size. Apple has slightly revised the design of its smartphones. Gone are the 6.1 and 6.7 inches which have been the heyday of Pro models since the iPhone 12. Instead, Apple is highlighting screens of6.3 inches for the Pro modelet6.9 inches for the Pro Max.

We will also note the arrival of the minimum brightness at 1 nit for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. This new feature should make all the difference at night or when you wake up, with a much less dazzling screen.

Performance: say hello to A18 Pro

Apple had already hit hard on the iPhone 15 Pro with a new A17 Pro chip. But in 2024, the apple brand has raised the bar another notch. With the new chipA18 Pro, the Cupertino company maintains a 6-core CPU (with 2 performance cores and 4 energy-efficient cores) and a 6-core GPU. The Neural Engine still has 16 cores, but it has been significantly optimized according to Apple.

In short, if the architecture does not change, Apple promises developments during use.The chip is announced to be more economical.At equal performance, the iPhone 16 Pro and its A18Pro processor would consume 30% less energy than the iPhone 15 Pro. A change which has a significant impact on the autonomy of the device (see the battery and charging section).

This is the great material change of this generation. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max (like the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus) have a“camera control” button. Located under the lock button, on the right side of the phone, it launches the camera with a single press.

It also offers the possibility of modifying camera settings such as focal length aperture, zoom power or even image exposure. But that's not all. This new button also allows you to launch« Visual Intelligence »a feature linking the camera to Apple's artificial intelligence.

Concerning the case, Apple offers 4 finishing choices (see image below): natural titanium, white, black and the new “sand titanium” which is appearing this year. This color should bring back memories to owners of “rose gold” iPhones, the two colors being quite close.

These iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are designed with a titanium chassis. The back is covered with a layer of textured matte glass. On the front, the screen is protected by Apple's 2nd generation Ceramic Shield technology. The Apple brand ensures that it is the most resistant solution available on the market at the time of the machines' release.
