What changes inside the iPhone XS: battery management chip from Apple and antennas

This year, in the race to be the first to disassemble the new iPhones, the renowned iFixit was beaten by another company specializing in iPhone repair, FixjeiPhone. The latter had discovered thatthe battery had changed, and not just in terms of capacity.

But on this day of iPhone release, the disassembly specialists at iFixit, set to the task. They carefully inspected the innards of the new machines, and discovered somechanges to the antenna and battery management chip.

End of last year, there was a rumorApparently, Apple was working internally on a new iPhone chip dedicated to energy management. This was usually provided by the British company Dialog Semiconductor.

iFixit technicians have confirmed that the iPhone XS Max battery is charging, thanks to anew battery management chip designed by Apple. This should in particular make it possible to optimize energy consumption, and therefore offer better autonomy.

Still regarding the battery, iFixit also observedlike FixjeiPhone, that the L-shaped battery is no longer in two separate parts like that of the iPhoneall in one piece on the iPhone XS.

Finally, they also discoveredan additional antenna, where the left microphone hole was. iFixit suggests that this could be used insupport for “Gigabit LTE”on the new iPhones, but alsoimprove cell reception.

As usual at the end of every iPhone teardown, iFixit gave a repairability score of6 out of 10 to the iPhone XS. The battery and screen are easily replaceable without disabling Face ID, but waterproofing measures and repairing the glass back remain an issue.
