Playing Super Nintendo on iPhone, soon possible?

So far, Applebanned video game emulatorsin the App Store. The reason is that the Apple firm wantsavoid any copyright issues. Retro game emulators often walk a tightrope, as the recentattackde Nintendo envers Yuzu.

Some iPhone users who are very determined to play their favorite games of yesteryear have chosen to bend the rules. For that, they jailbroken their smartphoneand were able to install the emulator of their choice, but we do not recommend this practice. Those who did not give in to temptation are also rewarded today, sinceApple has lifted the ban.As part of the DMA, the Apple firm has just indirectly announced support for emulators, but for a specific category of consoles only.

Retro console emulators are now allowed

Apple updated its review rules for approving apps in the App Store last Friday. We can now read:

Retro game console emulator apps may offer to download games.

Apple adds, addressing developers: “You are responsible for all software offered in your application, including ensuring that such software complies with these guidelines and all applicable laws.»

The actors are already there

On the Android side, this type of application has never been banned. Many retro game console emulatorsare therefore available on the Google Play Store. We therefore imagine that the latter will join iOS shortly, to the delight of fans of Super Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation 1, and others.
