Happy birthday, Mac mini, a computer soon to be even better

TheJanuary 10, 2005, during the MacWorld conference, ancestor of today's keynotes, Steve Jobs presented the Mac mini. The founder of Apple then announced a more affordable price than all the other Macs sold at the time, a fact still confirmed today since the version with M1 chip only costs 799 euros. That's a paltry price compared to that of a MacBook Air for example, yet also one of the least expensive from the Californian manufacturer but billed at 1,199 euros at the moment.

The Mac mini therefore celebrated itseighteen years old, i.e. longevity beyond that of the iPhonewhich has just completed sixteen years of marketing. Since its debut, the value proposition of this iconic collection has barely changed. It is therefore still a box without a screen, which everyone will have to connect to the external monitor of their choice. Recently, it may bele Studio Displaywhich turns out to be best suited to Apple.

A new version in preparation?

And what is almost certain is that the Mac mini is not going to stop anytime soon. Indeed, many rumors suggest that the machine will soon be entitled to an additional version, equipped withM2 processor. A chip that is already found under the hood of 13-inch MacBook Pros, renowned for its stability and high-level performance.

We do not know precisely when the new Mac mini will be released, but there are indications that it will arrive thisstart of 2023. Alongside this product, a new Mac Pro and the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are also expected.

For now, buyers can still turn to the Mac mini on sale in Apple Stores to equip their office. The model with M1 chip is available with 256 GB of internal storage and 8 GB of RAM for799 euros. As for the most skeptical of Apple silicon hardware, they can otherwise turn to the old version with an Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 3 GHz and accompanied by 8 GB of RAM for 1,259 euros.
